“The Tablets of Holath” is a translation project led by Guy Ben-Tov, dedicated to bridging the distance between the alien Shokrafians and us humans of Earth. This ambitious endeavor aims not only to preserve an ancient text but to foster understanding across time and space. Through the words of the Shokrafians, we glimpse a world vastly different to our own and yet, we can’t help but feel an uncanny familiality with the Shokrafians and their strange culture.
At its heart, this project is driven by a belief: that by learning the literature and history of an advanced civilization far removed from our daily lives, we may uncover truths about our own humanity and the paths we choose to walk as a species.
What Are The Tablets of Holath?
The tablets are among the oldest preserved writings of the First Age of the Shokrafian Empire, an interplanetary civilization whose intricate society spans multiple star systems. These ancient texts chronicle the teachings, trials, and prophecies of The prophet Goareth, a pivotal figure in all Farfaist religions. Goareth’s journey is one of survival, betrayal, and redemption in a world shaped by the multiple deities fighting for dominance. Of all deities, the prophet follows the deity of heat and light, Farfa.
The tablets serve not only as a religious cornerstone but as a cultural and historical artifact, offering rare insights into the inception of one of the most advanced civilizations ever recorded. They recount the prophet’s struggles against cycles of destruction, his quest to bring unity, and his ultimate mission to guide the prophets of Holath toward the “path of light” in the face of their greatest challenge—The cooling, a cosmic event that threatens their mere existence.
Why Read The Tablets of Holath?
This isn’t just a story of alien gods and forgotten civilizations—it’s a mirror reflecting our own struggles with power, spirituality, and trust. The vivid imagery of Holath’s cracked stages, the faceless prophet Goareth, and the endless cycle of stone-moving resonate with universal themes: the search for purpose, the nature of leadership, and the balance between knowledge and action.
Through its poetic narratives and philosophical depth, The Tablets of Holath invites readers to consider the weight of prophecy, the consequences of blind labor, and the courage it takes to break free from destructive cycles.
